Weekly Update 5
Sorry I haven’t been active, the past few weeks have been crazy. I’ll probably post these very few weeks from now on.
So what have I been up to? Well, mostly school. We’ve started preparing to write our thesis papers, and the amount of time I have to myself is slowly dwindling. However, I have definitely found enough time to do a few things. Notably, I was invited to join the GDI Foundation, where I’ve been working with a small team to track and document the recent Database Attacks. I’ve been working on developing new honeypot systems and methods of fingerprinting attackers. We have also begun considering possible countermeasures to these attacks. More information regarding that will be available soon.
Since then, things have been absolutely insane. I’ve gained 40 new Twitter followers in the past week. As I’m typing this, The full enormity of how much support and visibility I’ve gained in the past few days is hitting me. It’s really amazing to me that people care so much about the work I’m doing. In the work I’ve been doing with the team, I’ve heard stories of distress, relief, and even success. It has already been a lifechanging experience over only a few days time.
In other news, I have begun seriously focusing on developing a game with my good friend Caidan Williams. In all honesty, this is where my true passion lies. Though I find security fascinating, I also find it wildly stressful and scary. Any decision I make can possibly impact others in drastically negative ways. Actions need to be taken quickly and with precision. This is definitely not where I’m most comfortable. However, defending the cyberspace currently appears to be the best way I can contribute to society. Hopefully once I’ve finished developing a game, I can impact society in a different and less stressful way. You can read more about my motivation for programming here if you’re interested.
Anyways, that’s what I’ve been doing recently. Thanks to everyone who’s been following my blog and/or Twitter. Your support and comments mean more to me than any sum of money. You make it possible for me to do what it is I do. The idea that people care about my projects and take interest in what I do is one of the best feelings.
Thank you all.
